If you are going on the east coast you will be in camp geiger camp lejuene. Stay away from jacksonville!!! Nothing but strip joints pawn shops and people looking to rip you off. Anyway, SOI is fairly rough. You will spend roughly 4-5 days a week in the field. You will do ALOT of humping. You will carry your assigned weapon system on these humps. Sucks if your a 50 cal gunner. You have your weekends and holidays off. I think it's a 8 week course i'm not sure. I haven't been through the course myself, but some of my best friends are former grunts. You should also stock up on dip and cigarettes. Even if you don't smoke or dip you can make a killing selling them out in the field. Hope this helps. Good luck and semper fi

Stock up on Copenhagen Snuff(not longcut). Its like gold in an infantry unit when out in the field. I spent seven of my seven and a half years in the army in an airborne infantry unit at Ft. Bragg. I was a medic and had to do all of the fun stuff that you will be going through without ever being an infantryman. Take care of your feet and watch your drinking. That's probably the best advice I can give you .

SOI is easy. You start day 1 off with a PFT, then spend 3 weeks doing basic rifleman work. (you cant have snuff, don't bother). You will do tables 3/4 on the rifle range, some night fires, lots of fun PT, and some ridiculously hard conditioning hikes, 5k, 10k, 15k, and 20k. Just go in with a good attitude and know your weapons, you will get put into your primary mos field while in ITB, so be ready for that as well. Good luck, welcome to the Corps Devil.
