August 11th will be my first meet... already nervous lol! The WABDL section here in Elko (my spot on the map lol) only does Deadlifting and Benching, so I can't squat there, which is my favorite in terms of powerlifting... BUT I should still be ok! Wish me luck for the 11th fellas!

I'm a weakling bro lol. I was talking to Raul (the guy who got me interested) and we figured things out, with perfect form, I'm only hitting 305 on the bench, 405 MAYBE 5-10 pounds more on the deadlift, and the area here doesn't do squats, but I can rep out 385 for 8-9 reps. This is all raw as well... so ya, kinda weak, but I'm still young ;)

Working with the right person to find your technic can do wonders.
I've seen a 40lb increase in one workout.
Recently to prove this point, at my gym, I took a guy who was stuck at 135 forever. He tried 155 once and hurt himself, then gave up.
With a little guidance one month later he was up to 185 for 5 reps. He was capable of 225 but could not visualize it.
He then went on vacation and went back to his old form, he's stuck at 135 again. He has a decent build with no ph/aas use ever.
If I could only find the right partner, 500+ BP is waiting for me.
The inherent problem with BP is that you can't see yourself and adjust form.
IMO its absolutely necessary to have an intelligent and knowledge partner.

That's good advice. I do best when I work out alone for bench, spotters tend to ruin my lifts... lol

It is in kilos not pounds. Set by E.Stone. He is the state chairman, still a jr I believe.
You will not be laughed at regardlss. Most are very helpful and will cheer you on. I would guess especially at a meet he is running in IL.

Definately, even the super heavyweights draw zeros.
My 3rd meet should of been one of my best, instead I went limp.:(
Physically on point, mentally not by a longshot.

9 times out of ten, your 'competition' will be cheering you on, and actually WANT you to push yourself as hard as possible. Powerlifting is YOU VS Weights, not you vs them ;)

ya thanx guys, i think im gona do one for sure now after this competition-got no strength now. i dont think il have mental problems per say, hehe, cause im only gona go with the intent to see what i can do. i mean i go heavy all out in the gym theres no reason i wont get it at a meet too. even better i would hope cause i do my maxes after my whole workout, when i do them.
so if their in kg that means he was squating like a crap load. lol i can get half that but my god the man has my respect!

IMO its absolutely necessary to have an intelligent and knowledge partner.i started working out with some guys i met threw my lifting partner((lifting prtnet could bench 425 raw)) but the other guys i met were training to be in a contest and the one could bench 550lbs with a shirt and i think his weight was 205 at the time? any how wish i had a good lifting partner to push me more give me a little nudge on the bar if i get stuck going up , it does help... spotting someone lifting that much weight didnt seem to be a problem......i tried a shirt i cant stand them but i know they have to be worn, tare & bruises you up.......

I haven't tried a shirt in years. Gotta buy a new one.(old one won't fit)
As for the bruises, I love em. It intimidates the hell out of people when they see them. Everybody is like what happened. Oh my god.
I guess I'm just disturbed a little. :D
Stretch marks are cool also. BATTLE SCARS, BOOYAH:eek:

He is a very good squatter, plus squat suits are allowed. Some give a lot of weight if you learn how to use it, some do not give much-depends.

Can tears up the triceps etc. That is nothing like a squat suit though. You will look like you got in a fight with a dominatrix.....and lost!
Or just go raw-no equiptment. Many people do even when they allow equiptment. Stuff is expensive. I would try a meet or two out first, see how you like them and talk to other lifters, etc. Then make the investment.
Don't know if this is hi-jacked or not. Looks like just more motivation for RA.;)

you know i used straps for ever with deads cause my back was lacking and my grip would go before i could get a back workout. then when i descided it was time to get away from straps it was no different. i can do just as much weight with or without straps or chalk or anything but a belt. i just use straps now when i wana go higher reps or im pushing my back more than i want to my grip

LOL! I don't like to look up to those kind of people for inspiration, my inspiration mostly comes from my determination to succeed. Today when we threw some chains on the bar, I didn't even think once about pussin out, lol I love challenges, and I think powerlifting may be the challenge that I need to push my limits further.

ya i cant wait to train for one. iv been thinkin about some techniques to add to help out my bench. im gona add the stretchy cords around the ends to the bench. im also gona practice starting the bench movement at the bottom sence theres a static hold im gona have to get used to. i think that will help with the explosive power. chains are also another good idea. and i think il also go deeper on squats so parralell seems easier.

Ya, definitely go LOW on squats, I use a baby bench for my box squats, its wayyy beyond parallel.

"I'm gonna add those stretchy cords around the ends of the bench." LOL your too funny MUBB. We powerlifters call them bands! That alright though, bbs, and pls really are different breeds of humans.

RA, you always have good educated things to say. I hate stupid people, and you come acrossed to me as a very intelligent person. I am an absolute believer and proponent of powerlifting. It is very challenging and it will make a man outta' you. People come into my store all of the time looking for ultimate solution on "gettin' big." And it's as simple as power/Olympic lifting. The more muscle fibers you can recruit on a lift the better gains you will get in overall size, and strength. Adding extra tools to the equation is also a phenomenal idea. Having the dyamic resistance of bands, and the static resistance of chains will be a big help to any and every plateau you may encounter during your lifting life. Also things like pin presses, fire-offs, rack pulls, and board presses are also excellent ways to help you along your powerlifting road. After saying all of this I am begining to realize that powerlifting very heavy weight in the long term is probably more detrimental than beneficial, but it is very hard to stop. Just because you body can physically deadlift, bench, and squat 405, does not mean that it' good for your body. Hell I'm 22 and my knees, lower-back, and shoulders are in constant pain. That is probably a culmination of 6 years of football, 3 years of wrestling, 3 years of throwing, a few as a ground pounding soldier, and about 3 years powerlifting.

Get 2 pairs of soccer socks ( that's football socks for you across the pond)-will save your shins.
Also some neoprene knee sleeves if you are doing them in nylon running pants so the bar will not get stuck-will save the top part of the knee if you do them the man's way-conventional. ;)

Haha, that's the only way I would consider doing them ;) I have actually considered several options, in the end, it's easier and more convenient on so many levels to just grin and bear it.

I think I'm gonna dislike the 198 division... I weighed in at 201.1 yesterday morning... and I honestly didn't enjoy seeing slight decreases in my bench.. Should I maybe just stick it out in the heavy division?

i kinda agree with you there.getting smaller even if its a couple pounds goes against the way i think.
getting bigger and stronger is more of a challenge for me.
i look at the boxers who drop a weight class and say "omg why did he do that?" plus i look at the super heavy weights that just dl 900+ and think i want to do that.
since you're almost there at 198 give it a try see if you like it.if not,you can go up later. you'll do what's right for you good luck

Don't worry about what you weigh, just get stronger and see what weight your body is good at. Plus, you do not need to keep it that close to 198, training in the 205-208 range is not unreasonable and compete at 198. Dropping weigh especially water last few days before a meet is not that hard. And you do not need drugs to do it. If you weigh-in the night before you can be back up to weight(or pretty close) by meet time.
Dropping it the wrong way though can have an adverse effect.

I am going to plague RA's log with advertisement. The next issue of MAN-UP Magazine will hold a nice chest routine for you to increase your bench precipitously RA. You will essentially have to correct a deficit in order to complete it. This will be completely laid out for you.
So, where the hell on the map are you located. Must not be large enough to go on most standard maps! :D
