View Full Version : No Carb, No Hunger. Why??

Hey guys, I've been currently running Sunday-Thursday at zero carbs(probably more like 10-15, if you count some almonds and the +1 or +2 in my whey shakes) and then Friday & Saturday I carb up to the tune of a 30/60/10 ratio. What I find strange is that, during my 1st week on this diet, probably the 1st two no carb days made me feel like a Somolian, but since then I never feel "empty" anymore nor starved or hungry when I am on no carbs. Is this a normal thing? Should I be alarmed?

Well I'm currently real strict with my calories and carbs etc etc, but I was just wondering can it at all be harmful if I'm zero carbs and not feeling as hungry as I did during the 1st two zero carb days? My fat intake is high via Salmon, EFA's, tuna etc etc, so maybe this is the reason? Appreciate the feedback.

Ketones my friend LOL. Besides low carb/high fat diets are great for blunting hunger. I sometimes have to remind myself I have to eat!

same here, sounds like your trying the same diet im doing. i thought it was CKD but dino claims it more like CTKD. either way the higher fats keep you fuller for longer cause their slower digesting. after the weekends(carb ups) you feel empty cause you ate carbs instead of fat, which is what your body WAS running on.

Yeah, yours is way more detailed though MU, but you gave me the foundation of my diet so far and I can see it working slowly, but surely, so thanks alot. I appreciate the help. Well I never have to remind myself to eat because my stomach starts too after about 2 hours from my last meal, but for the most part this low/zero carb diet isnt as bad as I thought it would be. Just takes some willpower. I guess it seperates the best from the rest, well hopefully I become one of the best haha.

I also have 1 other question. My workouts are Monday-Friday, but being that I barely consume above 10 carbs a day during the week, is it bad that I'm not consuming some carbs PWO? I mean I can deal with the no carbs, but I always read about the whole insulin spike bruhaha.

I also find it the most manageable for a normal lifestyle. After the gym my son and I were looking for a place to eat.........IHOP for steak and eggs! Ideal:D

I think this is a great point!!! When trying to eat "healthy" while going out and such with others, it is much easier to maintain low--> no carb, mornings or otherwise. Of course passing on potato-product sides usually gets me a little and so I have grown accustomed to getting salads or some other low-carb side as that happens (of course, even here I have to modulate what I use on it)...
It becomes second nature I think as more time passes on it.

Hey MU, so its ok to take some carbs only PWO? It will not stop us from reaching ketosis?

i think its fine to take it PWO, infact its a very good idea to help keep muscle. i wouldnt go over 30g except on the last workout day when you start your carb loading, if that how you do it. i have no idea how to tell if you get in or out of keto or how easily it is switched on and off. iv heard you can tell by things like urin color, smell, a taste in your mouth, exess pissing and weight lose, but idk.

Man I drink 2 gallons of water a day, but most of it is consumed during the day, and I've been wondering why the past few days I've been urinating like crazy. I can't even stay asleep without having to go to the bathroom so many times. And on top of that my urine is still coming out very yellow. As far as the taste in my mouth, I can't really tell because all I eat is salmon, tuna, steak lol. I just purchased some ketone test strips, because I want to see if I am in ketosis for sure, and the test thingy says the test will tell you if you can increase ur carbs or should reduce them based on how many ketones show on the strip.

keto sticks you should be able to find at the local CVS or the like. I never used them and have heard they are not the most accurate indicator. I use my own method. I don't eat carbs -than I know I will eventually be in ketosis for sure :D

ya i tried wallgreens, walmart, and oscos. cant find em. i guess ebay will get my order soon. so far iv been using your method, im pretty sure that by wed im in ketosis. i get so much activity that theres no way my body hasnt used the little bit of carbs it gets. plus im seeing results almost every day.
so nj, since iv been on this for over a week i quit looking flat without carbs. is there a reason for that?

I encourage blood tests or minimally glucometer readings. Sure, if you are not a diabetic one of these machines will cost you some money and the finger sticks sometimes suck a$$ if you are not used to them (depends on the machine how badly they hurt though). But I tell you what...you become VERY accustomed to your body's metabolism and the way it reacts to certain things with readings after certain items.
Through time mu, your body can become much more efficient at gluconeogenic processes, so just be certain that's not too much an issue. If you are following a TKD setting of any sort, there is certainly the propensity to be simply modulating blood glucose and nothing more. While this will still contribute to fat loss for most people, the scale will not be as pronounced as for those who are glycogen-depleted.

ok well i think i will go buy one of the glucometer things, iv seen them on sale for 15$ before while others are 120$. will this be able to tell me then if i am in ketosis rather than just making a lot of my own glucose? and what readings should i look for?
