Has anyone ever tried a liquid diet? I'm told that you can loose as much as 10 pounds in a week, but I've tried it and it's hard to follow.

Here is my suggestion on a liquid diet. I have done it several times for a quick loss. I would do it for 3 days on 2 days off. On your off days, really watch what you eat. I would eat chicken and tuna with a little brown rice. Now on the 3 days of liquid, if you are needing to eat, eat some brocoli or Asparagus. As these are two veggies that are used to aid in water loss from the body. This should also help you maintain your diet.

Is there any limits as to what you can drink durring the "on" protion? Are things like milk, soup (items with carbs) ok? Or does it mainly need to be protein shakes and water?

If you want to do it right, the only carbs I would be would be from brocoli or asparagus. Other than that, I would drink just protein drinks.

Don't forget Celery, it's high in water and requires more calories to digest than it provides, but I'm not sure if that is exactly what you're looking for. I always used it when I was cutting weight for wrestling.

I would never do a 'liquid diet'.
If I wanted something to quickstart my fat loss program, I may drop my carbs ultra low (the duration of time would depend on individual factors) for awhile. Then I would build them back up.
The way I do an individualized fat loss program is kind of complex and their are so many differences; if anyone is interested feel free to e-mail me about it.

I kind of agree with Steve on this one. Personally, I would not do something this drastic as I am assuming none of us are morbidly obese and much of the "10 pounds" quoted in the initial post would seemingly not be attributed to fat loss. Who cares about weight loss?
There is no intention of making that sound harsh, but why the hurry to drop a lot of water weight?
Now, if there is a morbidly obese individual who has been consuming an amount greatly exceeding caloric baseline, a "liquid diet" of sorts may contribute to a > 10 lbs. during the first week, however, in this case...I would attribute more to fat loss (possibly up to 4 or 5 pounds). For comparative purposes, the weight lost by someone hovering around a solid baseline for weeks, is likely to lose in a 1:1:1 ratio of fat:water:muscle. Decreasing muscle means trouble in the long run and could set you up for larger disaster sabatoging future plans and taking like 10 steps back.
Admittedly, if you adhere to something like the ideas suggested in the Myochem post --> you are likely going to be more "successful," but I personally see it as taking 2 steps forward, 3 back. The only modification I may make is follow the liquid diet on non-workout days and make sure they tally < the amount of whole food days (i.e. - the reverse order 2 liquid, 1 NO-carb whole food day, 2 whole food LOW-carb days, repeat...). This is subject to individual modification - it was just a suggestion that may work.

I have used a liquid diet as explained before with no complications or loss of muscle. Like I stated, I would never do one that goes on for a month or months, but with the protein and greens, it is a great diet. I actually got this to excel fat loss from a top IFBB pro trainer.

What did your calorie tallies, etc... look like? How much of a decrease from maintenance did you go?
