let me give a brief run down before i start explaining my problem.

i was about 187 mid january and i started my pp/sd cycle sometime in february. half way into my cycle, i started getting bad cramps in my calves. if i walk too long of a distance (at LSU and walk to classes) or even if i run just one lap, my calves will start cramping really bad. i usually have to take a couple minute break and then continue walking.

i currently am at 215 and i believe the problem is that i do not think my calves are able to support my weight.

i have tried stretching before/after my long distance walks/runs. i work them out either once or twice a week. i usually keep the reps at around 10-15 with moderate-heavy weight.

i have not tried working them every other day which was going to be my next solution but i am a bit scared because i do not want to injure them more.

any advice will be appreciated, thank you.

Whats your daily water intake like?? If you up your water intake it should help the cramping, and are you currently working out your calf's?? You may just want to let them rest for awhile

I would have to say that it sounds like you may have pinpointed the problem but seeing a doctor may reveal otherwise.

My advise is to stick with what your doing, Your calves get used all day especially if your walking from class to class. They will build up and adapt but there is definitely no need to overtrain them because that could potentially elevate the problem. try rolling your feet when you walk so to take stress off of the calves. Go from your heel to you toes. Youd be amazed at how many people dont walk right and sometimes dont let thier heel touch the ground at all.

Had major Calf cramps about 6 months ago. Went to the Foot Locker, bought a new pair of Nike Shocks and poof no more cramps. It worked for me. The shocks seem to force me to walk correctly.

thank both of you for the help.

i do not believe it is a lack of water, i get around 1 1/2 gallons a day. maybe i will up it to 2 and see if it helps.

i will try walking more on my heels and stick it out a bit. if it worsens i will probably go see a doctor.

again thank you.

Just like SC fan said, The shoes you were could make a major difference. I dont know if there are any where you live but around here, we got a few specialty running shoe stores that actually have you walk on a treadmill to analyze your gait to get you a shoe that works for how you walk. Sometimes that helps and sometimes just getting arch supports help too.
