A couple of protein shakes recipes

High Fibre Apple Cider Protein

As we know, oatmeal or any type of fibre with our protein shakes is highly desirable. So how do we get fibre into our protein shakes? Try this recipe out. I know it may sound odd, but give it a go then comment... it's surprisingly tastier than you'd imagine.

Ingredients:
Apple Juice
Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal
Your favorite mild-flavoured (i.e. vanilla) protein powder

Directions:
Put a glass of apple juice in the microwave for 1 minute until steaming hot. Put the raw oatmeal in the blender, then add the steaming/boiling hot apple juice. Allow it to sit for 1 minute until the oats begin to get soft. Then blend on high for 90 seconds. The blender will actually break the oats down to a fibre blend, it will NOT be chunky. If it is too thick, then add some hot water to the blend. Once everything is blended nicely, add the protein powder while the blender is on. Allow it to blend for 30 seconds. Pour into a mug if you really want the apple cider experience. Drinking by the fireplace is optional.

You will end up with what tastes like apple cider. (a warm apple cider sweet drink). The protein powder will be almost untastable, and the oats will be unnoticable as well. Goes down really nicely if you workout in the mornings and just got home from the freezing cold outside. This will give your body a high protein, high fiber drink. However, it will also be high in natural sugars from the apple juice, so if you're looking to lose weight or will be going to bed soon then this may not be for you.

Peanut-Butter Banana Slushy

This works with almost any flavour protein you can throw at it. The trick to making this one tasty is how you mix it. This drink should never be too thick. Most people prefer using Chocolate powder with this.

Ingredients:
3 tbps smooth natural peanut butter
1 cup water
1 cup ice cubes
1 banana
protein powder

Directions:
Add 1 cup of ice cubes to the blender, and turn it on medium. While the ice cubes are breaking down, add 1/2 cup water. While blending, drop the banana in there. Allow it to thicken slightly. Now add the protein powder. It will thicken some more. Add the remaining water while it's spinning. And finally, the peanut butter. Allow it to blend for a full minute to allow all the peanut butter to diffuse, and the banana to get broken down. The ice cubes will remain small icy bits in there to make this similar to a slushy. Kills the taste of the protein powder, while still being a very tasty drink.

Berry Smoothie

These berry drinks always taste good if you have a bit of a sweet tooth. This is more suited for the person looking to lose a bit of weight.

Ingredients:
1 scoops of Berry protein powder (your choice)
4 strawberries
15 blueberries
1 Single Serve Berry Yogurt
16 ounces of nonfat milk
1 cup of ice cubes

Directions:
Add ice cubes, yogurt, and berries to blender. Blend on high until ice is broken down, then add non-fat milk. This will thicken up and raise as it is whipped. Add your protein powder, and blend for another 40 seconds. This will make for a thick, rich, protein shake.

Peanut Brittle Super Shake

This is a very tasty shake right here. It mimics the taste of peanut brittle, without having the high sugar content.

Ingredients:
Vanilla protein
1 tbsp sugar-free instant butterscotch pudding mix
1 tbsp natural peanut butter, chunky
8 oz. cold water
3-6 ice cubes

Directions:
Add ice cubes, cold water, and pudding mix to blender. Blend on high for 30-40 seconds until the pudding has thickened. Add protein powder, continue mixing for 30-40 seconds. Add the chunky peanut butter last, as you don't want to chop the nuts up. Pulse-blend 6-7 times for 2 seconds each.

Super Sour Creatine Kicker

The objective of this shake is to have enough simple sugars to act as a catalyst for the creatine, while also providing high protein, and great taste.

Ingredients:
Vanilla protein
Creatine powder
5 Granny Smith apples
1/2 cup ice cubes

Directions:
Skin, pit, and chop apples into slices. Add them to the blender and allow to blend on high for 30-60 seconds. You'll notice all the water/juice from the apples rising as it is broken down. Add ice cubes, and allow them to chop up as well. Now add the protein, and creatine powder. Notice there is no water necessary for this shake, as there is enough liquid in the apples, but you may add water if you'd like to adjust the consistency.

Iced Creamy Vanilla Coffee

Ingredients:
1 cup low-fat milk
vanilla protein powder
1/2 cup low-fat coffee flavored ice cream
5-6 ice cubes

Directions:
Pour milk and ice protein powder in blender. Blend on high while adding ice cream. Stop blender. Add ice cubes, and pulse 5-6 times to chop them up a little bit.
