i have a 1988 camaro that i tore down and rebuilt the engine. i have 2 wires left that i forgot where they ground off to...would anybody know where they would go?

One is up from in front of the passenger side/center that is a thin orangish/yellowish wire that looks braided probably 10 inches long.

The other connects just to the left side of the radiator ( if you were looking down the front) and the wire is a simple round black wire. Maybe 2.5 3 ft long.

If anybody would know it would be very helpful, because where i thought they went...well they didnt and when i went to start the car up for the first time again they started to smoke.

Dude, pick up a shop manual, that's the best way to do this. It's hard to ask people over the internet about wiring in a car they have yet to see, even if they own the same model.

thats the thing. i have a chiltens manual that was pretty good at telling torques and and assembly. But i have been looking and have yet to find a manual that is good at electrical. Any suggestions for some good ones?

Just ask some dudes at a mechanic shop, odds are they would be more knowledgeable than people on a forum dedicated to supplements and weight lifting lol

Look for a Haynes manual, since they offer better info. for complete tear-downs(like you just did).

Some people like to work on cars too:D and it never hurts to atleast ask, in my opinion. I have been to a couple shops...they say they have to see it to know what im talking about...and my car can't run. Towing costs to much for my budget right now.:x i guess im just sunk

Aw dude damn, well I know what you mean, I personally fix up cars as much as possible, but I work on imports and don't deal much with American made cars because they tend to NOT LAST!

Pffft, forget that. My car is not only fast, but reliable.. I do plan on buying a new car soon though... but even then I won't get rid of my integra.

if they're ground wires, shave off some paint somewhere on an inner fender (so long as its metal) and run a bolt through.then attach. A ground is a ground is a ground my man, well unless its a harness, then you might wanna catch frame.

well. i got it to turn over today. but im just so fed up with it because now whenever it tries to start gas goes everywhere. so, i have decided to take it to a auto shop and pay to get it fixed. As expensive as it might be ill just manage my money and save up for the next month or so.

gas goes everywhere? from what source?

if you look in the back if the Chiltons manual or Hayes, they have a wiring schematic..look up the color of the wire and it will tell you where it starts and where it goes..they arent too had to read

if gas is going everywhere someone didnt use enough pressure / teflon tape to seal the various fuel hoses.

the braided wire is your main ground it should be screwed to your firewall and bolt to your manifold. the black wire up front is possibly you ground to your battery if its screwed or bolted to your frame or just to a metal bracket and does not go to a device you can put it with the negative on the battery.

you shouldnt have to use teflon tape on any fuel line b/c if it is leaking it will eat the teflon up anyway. if you have any rubber hose conecting to metal fuel line check the type of hose you used it should be touygh and have string wiven in the middle. if you just used any old hose you had make sure the clamps arent super tight they well eat rite threw it and you wont notice. or you have cross threaded the metal line that connects to the carborator or fuel pump. or you forgot to tighten the line at the pump or carb, its easy to foget small things when building a motor.

by the way it wont start if those grounds arent grounded.

I figured out the gas problem. I have fuel injectors and they leaked gas, so what i didn't know was that when you take them out, everytime your supposed to clean them and replace the O rings.

As for the braided wire i had it attached to the firewall and a bolt to my intake manifold, should i try attaching it to my exhaust manifolds instead? i think it might reach. Its long enough to attach to my distributor, some fuel cell in the back of the block, exhaust manifold, and intake manifold.

Thanks for the help. and the wire isn't for my battery i know that much. I already have a ground wire for that. it connects right between the battery and radiator. to a bolt with another wire also on it by the looks of it.

you should be ok with the braided wire to your intake manifold make sure its clean of paint, grease or dirty grime. the wire at your radiator has another wire attached trace the other wire and see were it goes. the black still could go under your battery ground. not meaning it is your battery ground but it may go to a device that needs the ground.

Ah gotcha. Thanks. Yeah so i went into a auto shop today to ask how much it would cost to get 2 fuel injectors replaced and checked. After the guy sat there and thumbed through a book for 15 minutes. came to the conclusion of $150. So i said "id rather do it myself", well before hand he was very nice and helpful, but after i said this he just turned into a dick. So i asked him about the wires, if he might know and he just continuted to flip out and say "I don't know what it is, this book i dont understand, just bring the car in!" and so i said very politely "It dosen't run right now so that would be a small problem..." so he cuts me off and says " Do you even know what the hell your doing about these wires..." at this point i wanted to grab him by the head and slam it into the desk...but i politely said "Sir, if i knew what i was doing about these wires...i wouldn't be here". and nicely walked out while he complained to another customer about how rude and disrespectful i was.

I thought i would share that :D it sure made my day.
