What is the proper dosage/day to get maximum results from this supplement? I've heard somewhere around: EPA+DPA = 3g
However, in my fish oil supplement(spring valley), it states to use 1-3 caps per day with a full glass of water, and there is only 180 mg EPA, and 120 mg DHA in each capsule.

Try to aim for 3g EPA and 1.5g DHA daily, might get costly with regular brands so search around and you can find 1000 fish oil capsules for about $30 bucks.

So how should i split up the doses with what i currently have?
5 caps/3 times ED would do it
Is that the best option?

Yeah 3 grams COMBINED would be a minimum. It is more important to get a 2:1 ratio as trans suggests.
The one thing you may want to watch if you dose this high is that there are anticoagulative (anti-clotting) effects with fish oil...usually to combine the oxidative stress, you use antioxidants (one of which Vit E also has additional anticoagulative effects) --> be on the look out for people who tend to bleed significantly or have ever had chronic nosebleeds, et al.
There has been no additional benefit shown to dose in these kind of fancy parameters (i.e. - multiple times per day)...the best rationale for employing such a dosing style is:
(1) the caloric factor ... again 9 calories per gram for each gram of fat (likely we are talking about 81 calories here in just fat pills).
(2) the fish burp....oh anyone who has taken fish oil without enough water can attest to this. :D carry some breath mints, it ain't pleasant the "second time."
Getting it done once a day or something may increase people's compliance (i.e. - taking it religiously as it is a general health supp for the most part and not purely ergogenic) and that would be fine if the above 2 factors are kept in mind.
Hope this answers your question effectively.
