View Full Version : Need good casein protein and good carb drink

Hey fellas, I've been needing a good casein protein for a while now, and finally gonna look into what options I have. I've heard that muscle milk is great stuff, but havent personally tried it.
Also, I've been looking for a carb drink to take immediately post workout to ensure I'm gettin what i need on that end as well. I've been taking a whole wheat bagel, and downing a 12 oz drink for carbs for post-workout.

I've tried the ON 100% casein.. Not bad at all.. So that gets my vote..

DS Sustain or Propeptide are solid choices. I think the Sustain might be a tad lower in price
For carbs if you want to optimize your post workout I would use notthing but waxy maize found in Vitagro

i have only tried 2 casiens..... and luckily, they are damn great.
100% on casein chocolate
and sustain peanut butter fudge
mix them with milk and a couple ice cubes.......hmmmmmmmmm!!! no joke. and sometimes i have one scoop on, with one scoop of sustain...... damn its good.

My favorite caseins are:
1. Sustain by DS
2. Calcium Caseinate by Now Sports
3. Syntha-6 by BSN
The Now Sports product is straight casein, no flavor or sweetener.. I mix that in a blender with a scoop of either Sustain or Syntha-6 before bed.. I chug that down with 1/2cup cottage cheese.. :)

I dont mean to hikack this thread but ive got a question about drinks with carbs during your workout. Are there any positives/negatives of drinking a gatorade during your workout? Its got around 50 carbs but alot of sugar, so i was wondering if the sugar would spike my insulin or something of that nature?

I do not believe in macronutrient ingestion pre/peri-workout. Check out the last few pages of my 'why the preworkout shake thread'. I initially beleived it best to ingest such macros during the workout, changed my stance. Dinoiii also has a good article on the subject as well.
1) You blunt Growth Hormone release which is needed for IGF-1 synthesis
2) You blunt lipolysis (fat burning)
3) You blunt adrenaline/noradrenaline release
4) You divert blood flow AWAY from the muscle to aid in digestive processes
5) Many other reasons as well
Its actually better to be in a catabolic state during the workout, leading to a state of anabolism post-workout.

for carbs go with mega-pro carbo hit....cheap, 100%complex carbs, greaat deal.
p.s. keep in mind what trans stated in his post. consume carbs post workout...
