Being in a catabolic state during the workout is actually ideal. So yes, avoid taking the BCAA immediately pre-workout. 45 minutes into the workout is good general time to begin ingestion of these amino's into the end of your workout. Im sure you have heard the whole hormonal argument to why this is favorable body composition wise. If not, let me know and we can go further in depth to why this is so.
Dinoiii said it quite well himself:
2-hours pre-workout: Proper GI transit time, Counter-regulatory hormone upregulation time
Workout: Continued outflow counter-regulatory hormones
Post-Workout: Anabolic Supercompensation, insulinomimetic time frame (PRO-anabolic) by the time you set down your last weight....

your best bet. Invest in a flavored BCAA product, xtend is great, you could also buy bulk BCAA and use crystal light if the asparatame doesnt bother u and sip some 15 minutes pre, during and the remainder post. for a sustained amount of amino acids while you are working out.
