There are probably quite afew of us who have done a bodybuilding show.. I've competed in 4 natural shows, and 2 NPC shows.. Regardless of which you plan to prep for, it helps to have some sort of advice that may help, or motivate you if needed.. I plan to write up some things for prep like dropping water, posing, carb/fat/s#!t loading, diets and length of dieting, etc..
If anyone has any ideas, or wants to add to mine, feel free to add some here.. Also any questions can be asked here too, or a new thread can be made to address your issue.. We got some smart mofo's here, tap into it as much as possible! ;)

The more you do it, the easier it is to put on weight and you come in heavier the next show.. ;)

I think the hardest part for me was the constant eating.. I felt like I ate more while dieting than I did bulking.. Eating low-calorie foods I had to eat 10 times a day in fear of shrinking.. Once I got it down, I can diet on 3000kcal no problem, and I eat 6-8 meals instead of 10 servings of what goats graze on.. :D

Hey there bigpetefox, just caught your redirect in the other thread...time is limited sometimes to get back immediately to all the threads, but I think this could turn into a solid info source provided it is done correctly.
I understand what you mean about the "shrinking" effect. Prior to entering medical school (since dieting while on the hospital floors has been nearly impossible leaving me to live vicariously through clients) back in 2000 - I would literally eat about 12-13 200-250 calorie meals. I came in at what you would likely call a dry 210 at the time, yet winning a novice category while following that mind set. The very next show, with a different dietary mentality in place, it likely would've been better to have not even shown up. It is such a mind-f**k (of course, that's not exactly appropriate doctor-speak, so someone else would likely be the one to have said it of course ;) ) as some may describe it to mentally prepare yourself at the appropriate level in all facets.

Oh yes, the mental part is paramount to your placings.. It's like the judges can smell your uncertainty of your own body.. Be confident! I try to psyche myself up everyday as if I'm competing as soon as I leave the house.. ZBeing sure of yourself and what you're capable of helps bigtime.. My first NPC I went in with a good attitude and placed 3rd.. Second time I was sick, and that screwed my head up to keep my focus, plus I was holding water like a small cactus.. ;)

I will be doing my first competition in April. Right now I am 168 and hoping to cut to 140. I will be entering in the teen division, and hope to do pretty well. I will see about starting a log around the first of the year when I start cutting.

Good luck with the cut, brother!
I'll post a log up in January also, even though I don't cut until mid-March.. Might end up barely light-heavy this coming season, I hope.. :)

Thanks a lot for the support everyone... I will put up my w2w and diet as soon as I plan it all out and talk with a buddy of mine. I still haven't decided on what weight class. I am stuck between 143 and 150, so who knows... Realistically, to be dry and hard, 143... I will post some pics up soon and see what you guys think. I am very open to opinions and criticism, as you guys know better than I.

dont plan on a weight class, its best to just put the scales to the side and go by the mirror test. if you come in lean and dry it wont matter the weight class. as long as its ur best.
bnat u have a contest in april and u already started dieting?

I find that without the use of gear and other ancillaries it takes a little longer for non enhanced guys to get in contest condition. Plus I have found that it is much easier to maintain condition than to be behind schedule and try to get it all together at the end. That is when you make poor decisions and act drastically.
I am actually starting my precontest diet Jan 1 for shows in June. First weeks will be a transition and such but I hope to really nail my conditioning Finally THIS TIME

I agree to an extent.. The last 2 NPC's I've done in NH I ws natty, did no cardio, and was the heaviest in the middleweights (174).. I did fade abit the second show (5th place) and when I placed 3rd I was beat fairly.. ;)
Some actually need gear, sadly..
