Well, I guess the first question would be "How many competitors do we have here active on DA.com?"
I'm not sure of that answer, but I know that if there are any, I'm part of that club.. ;)
I can either post pics, or link to some of me in contest shape..

I didn't know you needed a specific topic covered, brother.. Yes, I've done shows not too long ago, and plan to one day give it another go.. If any other competitors were here, they should post to let it be known they're around for advice when someone needs it.. Just shoot me a PM if competition stuff is requested.. I may even do afew write-ups when I get a free moment.. ;)

I haven't competed in 6 years now (I can get ahold of pics from back then if desired when I return to NY). However, I do currently train and help prep many bb's in preparation (with their permission of course, I could make these available as well).
Is this something that there is a lot of interest for on this board as BPF asks?

I'v competed only 4 times but i still have some knowledge of the ins and outs of it. id be more than happy to help anyone interested in competing. i remember my first time i was scared to death because i didnt know much of what i was doing. i think it would be great for those just starting, and even for novices like me.

MU, Dino, I've made a thread with some ideas for those who have competed to help out those who want to.. With your knowledge, we can really help out some newbies to the competitive end.. ;)

Id love too see pics of all three of you guys who have competed- post pics on this thread.ive never competed due too it not being worth the time. its hard to be competetive in national level shows without using alot of gear and risking your health- and even then if you go pro- competition is stiff these days- alot of it based on politics and other bullshit- even if you do win a pro level show you take home maybe 10,000-15,000$ for something that cost you half of that just to prep for- I have preppd a few guys and given cycle advice to a few also but never competed myself even though I would place well in a show.
Just came across this post-I will add my pic. will be competing next summer

Well my purpose was not to push him off the board just wanted to private messages about nonsense to end and to bring it back to the focus of these boards. Discussion and sugggestions Though I did notice myself that he has not been around lately.
Thanks for the nice comments

Here's a clip of my routine from my second natural show in 2001.. My legs never dry out (well back then they didn't) so they look smooth and small.. Not a problem anymore.. ;)
I come out after 25 seconds of Al Thurston's yappin'..

I guess I'm endo/meso.. I put on weight easy, but the fat creeps up with everyother pound I gain. My father was into track&field in college, my mother was into fitness as well, some may say that since I'm half sicillian/african american that may have a say in my genes.. ;)
I placed 6th out of 23 in that show, it sucked 'cause the top 5 guys all had gyno and rather unsightly acne.. Natural when needed, I guess..

Yeah-I was actually the over 40 amateur bodybuilder of the week a couple weeks ago. Thanks for the compliments. I had a precontest log on some of the other boards and I guess if there is an interest I could do something here as well.:D right now just in off season mode and trying to bring up a couple weakpoints. Primarily traps and chest. My plans are to do the Mr PA in late Spring and based on those results a possible trip to the Master's Nationals. I really dont see myself competing past this year as other priorities (career, family,) take on greater importance

looks like you have certainly put some size on in the past 5 years. I think you can expect a much higher result this time. What organizations are you looking to do?

Thanks, brother.. I've been doing a mixed routine of my usual training and DC-styled sets..
I'm stickin' with NPC for now, if PDI starts up an amateur league I may even try them out.. I feel I have about 3-4 shows left, as I'm running on low motivation to diet, ot to mention cardio..

B-natural-good luck with your first show. I said 4 years ago I would not compete again but my son talked me back into it . Sure I diet and bust my butt for weeks and he gets the throphy-nah just kidding! He is awesome. I will agree with you it is not about the challenge once you competed a few times since you know you can do it. and it is not about the throphy. It is about self improvement-always has been for me. The issue for me is the bar has been raised so high and modern chemistry does play a large role in the sport at the high levels today. And that is just not something I am interested in doing in order to compete

ya around my gym there are a few guys still competing in their 60's and look amazing to say the least! they get more respect and noise from the audiance than the young huge guys. they say they do it just to stay healthy and of course cause they love it. iv talked to them and their views are pretty harsh as far as a young person advancing into bodybuilding. they have seen it all and tell me the bottom line truth is that you have to be willing to use everything (gear) to get noticed. its a little disapointing that this sport has came to that. i still plan on pushing myself as far as possible tho...im hooked for awial i think :)

theres how many bodybuilders makin real money doin this? not many 20-30? so ya i agree with u, an for those who are about to argue with my number, i mean the ones that win a decent amount of cash to compete in the sport, and have it be their source of income

Thanks for the props, brother.. I do enjoy competing when I'm already in the mindset.. See, the mental element is what keeps you coming back.. If I don't get into the mindset I need to be, I'll screw up and that's not why I compete.. Like nj said, it's more for the self-improvement of it, trying to beat your alltime best..

If we are talking about prize money than i guess the number would be about 5 but certainly less than 10. not 20-30 IMO Top pros make their money from guest posing, enodrsement contracts. I mean think of some of the people that have turned pro that you don't even hear of anymore. My one acquaintance that is an IFBB pro and placed in the top 10 of the night of champions and other pro shows. The bulk of his money was from an entry level job because he was too into training and the bodybuilding lifestyle to build a career and any money he can leech off the stripper gf he has at the time. I know this is not the topic of the thread and I dont want to rain on anyones parade but if you compete you need to do it because you want the challenge-not because you think you are going to be the future mr o

exactly, ronnie and jay are makin money and the rest goes to the owners of IFBB and all the supp companies making billions. its deff not a spread of income that insures the future of this sport! i do it cause i love seeing the change in my body and the reactions i get from friends.
im also sticking with my college work and CRNA hopes...then boybuilding follows somewhere. its a matter of priorities and i see it as a healthy hobby that i would like to carry on

I jus threw a moderately high number out there to satisfy critics, followed by my disclaimer if the number wasn't right. However, i do agree with you guys, its a near ridiculous goal, however I do like the challenge aspect, as some guys from my gym are competin in the same comp. we may not be in the same category but, we'll still all be around for support.
And my contest log starts in December.
