just wondering how mine compares with yours, i think it is getting ridiculous, but the place i go to is still one of the better priced ones around
400 a year, but there is usually some incentive like get 4 months free, so it would be something like 400 for 16 months
each month it is 70
other gyms around me are 90 for one place i know of, and 110 a month!!!! for a different place

the one that is 110 is crazy, i was in it once for a little trial (even though there was no way i was going to join) all the machines are digital-there is a little computer on all of them. you swipe your membership card and your history of how much you lifted on that machine comes up on the screen. it was really nice, but for that price i figured the weights better be lifting themselves

i think its about 43 a month but here in california everythings expensive just because of the cost of houses and property. just a regular old house is MINIMUM 350k. its a lot worse in some areas.

well silicon valley is near by. im about an hour from san jose. its unbelievable what people get paid there. a journeyman in floor covering which is what i do makes 35 an hour plus about 10 an hour of benefits. but the thing is only people making huge money can afford to buy now. many people who bought say 15 years ago have had their house worth doubled. so theyre the lucky ones. i keep expecting the price to level off and plateau, i mean the price cant continue to go up this quickly forever right? but it does. i was working in san jose doing the carpet in a condo that was just sold for 650k. the neighborhood was decent but not great. and it was basically a fixerupper. it was being repainted plus we did all the carpet and vinyl in the two story condo plus we changed all the window coverings. can you believe that? 650k for a fixer-upper CONDO.

Here in Indianapolis, we have a BUNCH of gyms. My wife and I go to Cardinal Fitness ($20 and me, and $10 for the spouse). We love it...never had to wait for any cardio nor free weight equipment.
I think we have a lifetime fitness that charges well over $100...however the gym is multi level, swimming pool with slides, day care, etc.

The small gym I work part-time at charges $44 a month, with a $25 one-time registration fee. Couples get a better deal with $72 per month & a $20 one-time regitration fee. Three months for a single membership is $108. We don't make you sign contracts. Our gym is in a very small, rural town. Most of the machines were made by one of the owners (a married couple). We have the standard free weights, 6 cardio machines & a separate aerobics room. Most of our membership is female, but there are a few guys that work out besides me. Basically, the gym has all the basic stuff you need to get the job done, nothing fancy, tho. And the homemade machines have required little maintenance in the last 9+ years it's been open.

easttexasmuscle, one of the owners built the weight machines? How good are they?

The small gym I work at has to charge a bit more than gyms in larger cities because of low membership (about 40 members currently) & high utilities/taxes. Most of the machines in our gym are about 9 years old. They've all held up great. Only thing that's needed replacing are the cables. Pads & seats have been recovered once by owner's wife. He's a welder, so all the machines are very sturdy. They may not be the prettiest, but they get the job done. A few bearings could be replaced on 1 or 2 machines, but after all the use they've gotten in 9 years, I'd say they're doing good. Eleven machines/stations were made by owner including Pec Dec, 2 Pull-Downs (1 with Tricep Pressdown & Seated Row capabilities), Bench Press Rack, 2-Level Squat Rack, Ab Cable Curl Seat, Leg/Calf Press, Seated Leg Curl, Thigh/Glute Machine & Leg Extension & an A-Frame Weight Rack with a Shoulder Shrug/Back/Deadlift/Bench Press built into the other side.

Sounds like you have a simple but effective "Rocky Balboa" gym.
