Ok, my opinion is that the deadlift is the one lift that shows overall power (if their is one and you can only pick one). But, to me the most impressive is the clean and jerk. Their is something about pressing over your head. I realize the clean and jerk olympic style is a highly refined skill but just in general, pressing over your head (like in strongman as well) just has that look of total control-it just looks impressive.
Any thoughts?

I agree with you, I was watching body fit at ******* and they Mario the worlds strongest man doing shoulders and dude was lifting 450lbs over his head it was just a shoulder press but i thought that was so awesome.

That's sick. I know who you mean (cant spell his name thought) guy is proof not all strength athletes are bloated looking.
I am going to work on the presses a lot this summer. Could not do them much these past few months-some shoulder problems but they seem to be clearing up if I am careful.

I can't do them standing in my gym the ceiling is to low that sucks cause I want to do clean and jerks.

I am not sure, I have a lot of respect for someone that can bench a shitload of weight. I think someone who does a lot of weight on there squats is awesome too.
However, I think I agree that a deadlift is a true measurement.
Watching some bench a bar that has rows and rows of weights on the sides, just looks awesome though.

Yes, many lifts can be impressive. Been working on the overhead presses more lately-long way to go.

the most impressive lift to me is dead's with squat's coming in close second. i saw a pretty impressive hammer strength bench the other day too. UNC probably knows what i am talking about. IH on another forum did 7 plates on each side for 4-5 reps.

DL are my favorite-I guess because it's my best lift.
Never did hammer strength-I never thought you could even put that much on one (lol).

the guy had to make special sleeves to go on the machine to hold that much. the video is incredible. he said he had one of him doing 8 plates 2-3 times but couldnt find it yet.

i would have to say that by far the most impressive lift that a person can do is the Snatch. It is by far the MOST TECHNICAL lift that anyone can do, it takes years to master and most never will. if any little part is off to any degree you will not make it, plus the explosive aspect, if your timing is not right to the milli second you will miss, this lift is truly the lift of a real athlete!!!

Very technical with a lot of explosive power no doubt. Reading your name does imply bias so I will let the "real athlete" comment go. ;)

Hey Sonny!
Cleans are pretty impressive, a combination of speed, power and control. My personal fave right now is heavy, ass to grass squats, but as my arm heals deads are becoming fun again. Plus both help with full body gains.
And standing in the PL corner slamming 305 touch and go's is impressive as hell.
Now, If I could just get used to the squatsuit.....

Aint that the truth!
First time I put one on I fell over! I got up, did my first set and realized the pain was my n*tz being forced back up into me. I asked Eddy and Beast if it ever got better and the reply was "no". Then I was told that I needed to shave down, that would make thngs a bit easier. I thought I got away from that when I left "pure" bodybuilding, but no, evidently not.
ouch

LOL! Yes this is accurate. It does not do much for the look down there. LOL! Can't wear a DL suit though-it throws me off, can do more raw, which sucks because the sumo guys get major poundage out of them. Of course, I do do it the man's way-conventional. :o

ide say i like to see deadlifts , squats, clean & jerk, im starting to get stronger on squats but i dont go all the way down to were my butt touches my calves tho and i do them on the smith cause an old work out partner helped me almost screw up my back when i was try to squat 650 just below parrellel, but i go all the way down on hack squat machine..my gym needs to invest in some 100 pound plates also, i mentioned it to the owner but who knows if he'll get some. i need to try and start doing dead lifts but im a little leary of pulling my back out. clean and jerk ive neglected them also , ide rather do them more in a private gym then with everyone around to watch at least until i can hit 450 again lol just a joke there;) but im thinking of doing it any how i just hope people dont come walking past when im trying to pick it up,, bench pressing is impressive too

a squat suite that would be strange to wear, i know ive tried my friends shirt for benching and i hate them ide rather do it without the shirt, you get all skin torn and brused and its achward . so i sure wouldnt want to squash my nuts in a squat suite lol

I would try to work those into the workout somehow.
Plus, if you are cleaning 450 I would not worry about who is walking by...they wont be. LOL!

If you are not planning on competing I would not bothering wearing them. Gear is where PL has been heading, if you want to be competitive you must wear it. It is misunderstood by most. The meets are ultimately a contest of who moves the most weight under certain rules and conditions, unlike the gym.

Never heard of a 4 second pause at any sanctioned meet by a legit federation. The rule is the bar has to remain motionless on the chest, the time is not determined. Then the press signal should be given.

Most impressive lift of just utter raw strength is definitely the deadlift. It's also my favorite:D The most impressive lift all-around is definitely the snatch. I snatched 190 in high school which was by far the best in my hs. You absolutely have to fire on all cylinders to execute this lift. I agree with W8lifter85 here. Ulimately any of the 3 powerlifts, or 3 Olympic lifts are all impressive in their own right. But, I'd have to say it's the deadlift and snatch. Hell, I haven't done a snatch in years. Hey not that one guys. It's unfortunately been a few months for that.

I love the deadlift!!! I heard some discussions on this and ppl say it is the most raw form of any lift due to the weight being just a lift portion where your muscles aren't coiling up energy like a coil spring.
