View Full Version : Diet Sodas

I have read on other forums some people guilty of drinking this type of product on a regular basis - in fact, some in excess of 4-2 liters of soda PER DAY!!!
I am curious what kind of bb lifestyle that is. First of all, a carbonated beverage impedes absorption of Vitamin B12 - which is imperative for proper absorption of proteins. My question for everyone - While their intentions may have been good (i.e.- cut out the sugary liquid crack type beverages known as regular sodas and replace them with the artificially sweetened goodness within a can of diet), are they not potentially impeding progress?
Now, I warn in advance I have heard the excuses errrr, rationales for why it is OK to add diet cola to your bb diet. Uhhhh, yeah. And I have also heard that ok if it is sabatoging results, it can't be 100% bad - probably only partially affecting me, right? Maybe so, or maybe you are spinning your wheels.
So DA forum members - lets here it....
(1) How much do you drink?
(2) Do you feel your diet could be better without it?

I'm totally guilty of this. Of course I drink diet because I like it, not because I'm trying to avoid sugar.
Now I'm hooked on these new caffeine mints from NVE.
On average, I drink about 32oz of diet a day.

Dieting dose work faster w/o diet soda. Anyone pre-contest should avoid diet soda as much as carbs.

i remember in high school i was taught that carbonated drinks also take away calcium from your body although its been a while God only knows if science has changed its mind on that one too.

There was actually a positive study just released about coffee but damn - I have no prayer of locating it right now. You guys may be intrigued - remind me next week or two and I may be able to get you some good info regarding your coffee "habit"
Uhhh, btw...coffee and you have used creatine and preached against thermos and creatine. I am curious how you figure this to be a solid argument then as coffee tends to be a diuretic? Just a note as to why I am saying thermos and creatine DO have a place together -but hey that's just accidental science you stumbled upon for yourself.

smart ass :?
Anyway - I have another retort for Bill I am preparing as I think it is going well for him...he had a pretty good post, but I will not go down without swinging you know....nah kidding - it may not be saw on my behalf that in my contesting products, I actually would love to see someone in the industry support and stand behind their products. But alas I digress ...
4 confusions remaining...phew - I have to be more careful!

1) Does Diet coke turn to wood alcohol in the body2) does it mimic Alzheimer’s in some people in large doses. I went off the stuff after heavy year of consumption 3-4 DC or DDP. I feel worlds better and just drink lots of water and a little milk w/ my cereal. Just wondering your thoughts on this after I stumbled onto this old thread.

I have not had a regular soda nor a diet soda in 4 months. I agree that even Diet Soda is awful for you.
My brother thinks that soda is perfectly fine in moderation, I personally feel that all soda is bad for you.
People think because a particular type of soda is sweetened with SPLENDA, that it is better for you. All I have to say to that is.. ROFL

This remains a neat thread...I have long-since forgotten it existed.
I am gonna pen a quick article this coming week with some good references that will address your questions bruiser and more.
I think it would also be a good time to address the potential thoughts on artificial sweetners as I feel are supported through various research in the making and it is just an application that applies to protein powders and virtually anything in our supplementation schemes today. Now, there is an in-house we did measuring the blood glucose response of 215 clients in a post-consumption state with various artificial flavoring that I think I will include in that thread - but I would proabably expect it in the "Open Articles" forum as it will be fully referenced. I need something to do as I am itching to get back to the wards (still one week out).

The last time I did have a soda, was for the exact reason. I was pulling an all nighter for my college homework and I decided that a bottle of Coke might help.
-I must admit, I felt very guilty and bad about it the next day. lol boy is that sad...
