I have a question. I got a friend who is serving his sixth year as specialist. The problem is that he has been the same rank since the first day going in. Now, I have been told he's getting chaptered for failing his PT tests. Is this true? Sounds to me there is much more to the story

sounds to me like it could be one of two different things....
either he is in a really jacked unit, (unlikely for 6 years)

or he is what we call a SHITBAG......

and yes they can chapter him for failing his APFT (army physical fitness test)

that is touchy question, friend.....

i dont knokw if it was worth starting or not, but i have been there twice and i fully believe we are doing the right thing by being there. Those people needed to be liberated, Saddam was a tyrant!!! i was there for the first push into the country, people lived like shit, it is getting better everyday now, and it will continue to improve. just my .02 cents

very interisting thread, and first i'd like to express my sincere gratitude for all of you who have protected our freedom.

I have considered the military many times, but being as i was already in college I opted against it. Im considering it again b/c I graduated and could possibly enter OCS. I mean i dont want to seem like im doing it for the wrong reasons ($$$) but with our economy like it is and jobs so scarce I will admit that its a motivation.

I mean I absolutly love dicipline and physical training, and have always had an aptitude for being a leader, but with Obama stepping into office I just dont know what to think about what is going to happen to the military.

thanks cool, i just want military opinions, real people, thanks for your thoughts.

did you think we would be in Iraq this long? do you think if we stayed there we would be able to finish the task in lets say, 10 more years?

also, do you think it would have been better to just try to finish the job in Afghanistan in the first place? everybody knows that the taliban have gotten MUCH stronger over the years, and of course there is the problem with the safe haven of pakistan we would have to go in there as well, and there are alot of european insurgents going into afgan as well.

i know its a complicated mess, just asking for a few more of your thoughts if you have the time to type.

Yea bro Leonardwood is nice, hopefully you'll be in the newer barracks. I spent a while in Leonardwood, look for Radka Kills/Delray Beach in the portotoilets, or latrienes as you will come to know them, and know a friend from DA was pissing there too, haha.

But serioulsy though, big ups to you, I hope you get everything out of your time in the service that you hope for, 31B is a very interesting and exciting MOS, you will learn some great stuff, and meet some even greater people. It gets hot in the summer (like 115 heat index hot), so have fun with your hydration cards. Just remember, it gets a lot easier after basic, don't get discouraged, and enjoy yourself, your part of something big now.

Ok I would like to know which branch is better to serve in.... Because I'm wanting to enlist and I'm talking to a army recuiter, but my dad served 27 years with the marines and I heard that it takes longer in the marines to make the same pay grade, but I know that the marines are way stricter than the army. But I'm thinking of enlisting for 6.

it ALL depends on what you want to do. Boy, im not gona touch this one with a 10 foot pole.... The Army does and will promote fatser it is the largest branch of all the services. the Air force is probally the best for living conditions and overall quality of life. i dont know shit about the Navy or Coast guard. I do share my building here in Ky with the Marine tank mechanics, and they are a good bunch of guys. So, i guess i still didnt answer your question..... I could give you the answer any other hard core army dude would give you....... ARMY RULES

I'm only asking to see the army side because I live the marine life as a child and I have family in the air force and he doesn't like it.... But I'm thinking of doin commuications or some sort of engeering but thanks

Ooh forgot about this thread :D

any army national guard experience in here?

July 2nd, 2009, 07:28 AM
I have done 2 years active duty army as a Infantryman , We were in both pushes in fallujah in 04. I am now currently in my 5th year in the national guard in a light infantry unit deployed to Iraq. All of the patroling and kicking in doors is over(anything offensive) It is all reactive now maybe you get blown up by an ied but you cant fight them ****ing things. As an MP more than likley you will in up in a Detention Facility over here. As for Infantry all we are doing us sitting on observation post outside the fob rotting away. As for National Guard when I was active duty all we heard was the guard was shit but the guard has changed dramaticly in the last 6 years with deployments and it is almost better because you have people with other skills other than their army mos and guard members seem to think outside the box a little more. There has always been a stigma about the guard being over weight and lazy but you will not see this in most combat units. i.e.(infantry,armor,scouts) hope this answers a lot of questions!
