Yes it's true! I am raising my right hand and giving my life to the country. I just want to know what I should have a heads up for when entering. I have enough credits to go officer so that is what I want. I would also like to be a sniper first and anything that is a kick ass job haha, yea yea i know its not that simple.

I also need to know if I would fail MEPS if im allergic to penicilin (sp?) and sulfa?

Congratulations bro! I proudly served my country in the United States Army as well. Good for you man! What made you make the decision to enlist? As far as your allergies are concerned, I don't think that they would have any bearing in your acceptance, or denial into the Army. Hell, they're so hard up for people to enlist, you could be in a wheelchair and drooling on yourself and they'd still take you. Their standards today are completely non-existent. I wouldn't worry about that.

Aren't you around 300 pounds bro? I imagine you'll have to go "Slim Pickins" before they'll let you in. Especially if you're wanting to get into something high-speed like spec. ops., or sniper. Great luck to you in your endeavors friend-o!

Thanks for enlisting Vike. You'll make a damn good soldier, and I mean that.

Yea, the allergy thing isn't gonna concern me anymore. I've thought about for awhile and if they dont accept me then thats their problem.

And yes im sitting at about 290 right now, I can pass the push up and sit up pt test right now, it the runnin that is gonna get me. I'm revamping my diet and workouts.

Diet:
Chicken
Fish
Turkey
Veggies, Veggies, and guess what? More Veggies
Oats
Brown Rice
Ezekiel Bread
Cottage Cheese only for the last meal
Protein shakes

Workout:

Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays
A.M. Fasted cardio
P.M. Bench, Tri's, Shoulder Press, Deads, Hypers,

Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays(just cardio and abs)
A.M. Fasted cardio, abs, forearms, upper-back

Weights and reps will be 5X5 but lower weight. Abs will be a array of failure sets, weighted sets and different angles. Also will be doing alot of push ups on lifting days at the end. My abs will have to be gradually worked into, but I want to be able to do them 3x's a week.

As for supps idk, here's the list of supps I have on hand.
Act. X
Novedex
Alcar
Igf-2
Thyro cuts
Thermotabs
Neovar
Recreate
Xtend (will be using this ALOT)

What made me enlist was the fact I felt out of place where I live and who i'm friends with. I need to escape and see he world, and the Army will help me as I work for them. I have always wnted to be a Marine since I was like 12, but I think the Army is a better choice for what I want to do. I need to take this one "phase" at a time, haha just a lil joke.

My goals before boot are 80 push ups in 2 mins, 80 sit ups in 2 mins and run 2 mile in 14-15 mins.

I go and get weighed and taped on Saturday. I will be signing up through the guard but I think I will be enlisting for a year first. There is a program that lets you do that before going guards. I want to do as many drills before boot to get a headstart on PT and also get a base knowledge of what the Army wants me to know.

Thanks for the encouragement KC!!!

I start running in 9 hours. I WILL run 4 miles before boot. Not gonna take this lightly by far. I will wake at 500 hours or 430 hours, suit up in under armour, sweat shorts, sweat pants, tank, t-shirt, long sleeve, hoodie and cap. Gonna make some sweat and get some conditioning at the same time.

Night, what you think about being in meps and having pharmaceutical allergies?

Is it weird to be excited for boot?

Congrats bro, I am very proud of your decision. You know this will be a hard challenge for you and you understand the consequences of your decision in full, yet you're willing to make the sacrifice anyways. You will make a great soldier and I am proud to serve with you, however distant that may actually be.

Thanks guys, went to the armory today to get weighed and taped and lets just say I have some serious butt-kicking to do in the next two weeks.

I measured out HEAVY, but I look and feel better than what Iweigh. I came in at 302!! I stand at 72". My neck is 19.5" and my waist is 46". I can drop 20 lbs. in one night of sauna so I just need to start getting conditioned.

I will be hitting up the sauna, preperation H wrap, lots of cardio and DIET DIET DIET!! I also picked up some laxative tea with another detox tea on top of that. I will be very careful to not over do it since I don't want my body going into shock. Man, walking on my knees is gonna suck! Just gotta remember the little pain there will be over-shadowed when I graduate.

It looks like I will be able to go and train Federal OCS at Fort Benning in Georgia. It just sucks it will be in the summer time.

P.S. While you are in, Save as much money as possible. I don't know how many years you are giving, so if you give hypothetically three years, try to put away at least 300 dollars a month. If you come out in three years you will have at least $10,800 dollars in your savings. If you give 6 years like my friend did, and I forced him to save, he is now coming out with $21,600 dollars in his account thanks to my advice. If he didn't, he would be coming out with nothing. Just thought it would be good advice since the Army gives you free medical, food, room and board etc.... In addition, thank you for your decision to join the armed forces. We need more people like you. Remember, what you put in the army, you can and will get a lot out of it. Take care.

Congrats Viking and Bswoll.I've served for 11 years in the Army.Viking make sure you get the OCS thing in your contract.Make sure you guys keep running that is the hardest part for most. You can go online and look up your APFT standards to see what you will need to do in basic training.Army physical fitness test.It wouldn't hurt to learn the rank structure both enlisted and officer before going to basic.Good luck to both of you!

Congrats Viking on your choice to join the armed forces. I apoligize, but I forgot my password and just now regained it; I know that you've gotten great responses thus far, but, I can answer your question about allergies towards medicine and the military completely. My personal experience (26 years) with the Army and Army Reserves is that it is a non-issue. I'm also allergic to penicillin, and the only thing that I had to do is wear a red-colored tag that stated the allergy and to make sure that my medical records were annotated with same.
Regarding your choice with OCS at Ft. Benning, all I can say is good luck and God bless; I think that you might know already, but basic is a GREAT way to prepare for OCS. In other words, it'll suck as much if not more than basic. My recommendation is if you want a break, look at joining an ROTC program at a college, or do a simultaneous membership-type program where you can benefit from a reserve paycheck as well as the stipend that's paid to you during your junior and senior years of college.
Another thing, be prepared to be treated like a star athelete once you're commissioned; junior officers are in extremely short supply and can just about write their own ticket. Hope this helps. I wish you the best, soldier!

I joined da army in 85', 19 years old. I was 160 pounds when I joined. Didn't lift weights, didn't run, all I did was smoke blunts, sniff blow and chase girls. I was a mess when I got in. Six months in I went up to 180, drug free and a new man, went to Germany and almost got married 8 times. Those were the days, lol.

I've had my recruiter and others tell me I can write my own ticket after Benning. I guess "smart officer" looks very good to the military. I also was told I will have alot of training after Benning as well. I am loooking into artillery.

Looks like I will be making the measurements and won't have to do the arms test....YES! I know the test will be easy for me I just don't want to do it. My neck measured 21" and my waist measured 44". I've been practicing on how to make my neck bigger.

I wish you wouldn't do it. With a score of 91 on the ASVAB, you're too smart to waste that kind of potential on the Army doing something like Artillery. I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt here and assuming that you're like most young men your age, who typically did well in school, stayed out of trouble and didn't have a problem, "smoking dope and sniffing blow." I've seen tons of young men during my short three years of service change their lives and improve themselves greatly- none of these young men were good kids from half-decent families who did well in school and never struggled with alcohol, drugs, or both. The only type of person I've ever seen improve in the military were the drudges. The ones who, otherwise, would've been in jail or ruined their lives with drugs or alcohol.

My only hope is that you'll recognize your potential and at least attempt to see what other things you're capable of accomplishing. How about at least attempting the MCAT or the many other admissions tests that can be taken for other institutes? See what other organizations will accept your intellectual ability before turning to the Army. Trust me, when McDonalds won't promote some loser to supervisor, the Army's right there to put lives into the hands of that kid. I've seen the result. I hope that you'll at least consider the many other programs that the Army offers, for example, the P.A program and the many like it.

I'm not writing this because I'm some sort of anti-government, anti-military hippy, but rather because I am a prior veteran myself. At the age of 22 years old, I now look back on my time in the military as a complete waste. Granted, they pay me in peanuts to go to college now, which I suppose is somewhat beneficial, but I earned that and more. I could have gone further, done more, and accomplished greater things had I simply taken a few student loans. At the rate I'm going, it won't be until at least the age of 28 that I graduate.

Good luck in your decision-making process. I hope you give this decision the much-needed time it deserves- for, in 3 years from now, the Army will still want your signature. Trust me, they're not going anywhere.

If you like being able to hear then you won't go artillery.Choose an MOS that will carry over to the civilian side.Electronics, communications, medical, aviation mechanic. You could also check into becoming a Warrant Officer. Please put alot of thought into choosing your MOS.I'm only telling you this so you don't make the mistake that most do.Do not listen to your recruiter when deciding on an MOS.

I actually wont be choosing a MOS. I will be all knowing of a category like military intelligence or artillery. I won't have a specific job just a mastered general knowledge. I also won't be choosing this until OCS. There I will everything laid out for me and then I will make a decision. I found all this out tonight.

18.5 years may give you an opinion haha. I have done the college thing and really just don't like being a civilian. I was going to have a career in law enforcement but when I got a taste of it I hated it. This is something i've always wanted to do but never dedicated myself to be ready for it, now I am and I couldn't be more happy with my decision. I am a patriot and believe if I am able to join I should.

I will not be disappointed, plus I will be getting decent money to spend on gym fees, food and supps. There is a whole world in the military that civilians don't see. It isn't the secretive things the military does, but a whole lifestyle that I am drawn to and want to be a part of.

What people don't understand is I am going to have FUN in the military. I'm going to have fun in boot and have fun in OCS. I get joy out of people thinking they are giving me a crappy job and turning it around and showing them up. I have been doing that since I worked at burger king in high school. I used to do all the crappy disgusting jobs like cleaning the grease traps or the whole freezer and back room area. Yes I would sweat and yes I would smell at the end, but my work would show others to stop bitching about having 12 burgers to make in 2 minutes and open their eyes. I have never found the worst job in the world because in my mind there will always be worse.

I see the military as an opportunity to exploit my full potential and be part of something only 1% of the population gets to know.

Viking,

I'm not sure if this was a rebuttal to what I said or not- None the less, best wishes to you. You've clearly made up your mind, and with a positive mentality like you've expressed, you'll certainly be able to keep your head up. I'm not certain, however, that you're able to ascertain that you really don't appreciate being a civilian, because unless I'm mistaken, you've got nothing else to compare civilian life to.

I did "the school thing" prior to joining the U.S Army as well. I've been a "ghost" here on DA forums for quite some time- nothing thus far has motivated me to reveal myself and actually post a response except for this thread. I'm offering my two cents because as a young man in your shoes, I made the decision you're about to make with the same, exact mentality. I even said all the things you're saying right now. I have nothing to gain or lose by your decision (infact, if you join, there's a slightly lower chance of me being IRR'd, haha). I just want you to understand from an un-bias source that this isn't something that you can say, with certainty, that you'll like. This is a huge decision (one that I think you're prepared to make). I do, however, respect that it's YOUR decision and there's no way to determine whether you'll love, or hate the military until you've experienced it for several years for yourself.

On a brighter note, I'll be the first to admit the food kicked ass and the gyms were unlike anything I'd ever seen before. In fact, I still can't find a local gym that compares to good-ol' Buckner (BPFC). Free food + free premium gym membership + all the perks = tons of money left for myself. It has it's up's.

I didn't read all the long posts, but I did see something about artillery. I was in supply and got stationed with field artillery in Germany. It was by far my best tour of the two I did. Yeah you don't have to be bright to get that job, and yeah if I were you I wouldn't go that route, but I must defend my Fa brothers, cause they do their thing! And if your looking to get rank extremely fast Fa is the way to go. Def. can get Sgt stripes in 2 to 3 years.

Nice!! I pretty much made up my mind to go active after all my training. Good luck with the Marines OCS I looked into it as an option and it is crazier than boot from what I heard. Though i'm sure Army OCS isn't too far off.

I tell you this, the military has always been a dream of mine. I never really thought physically I could do it, being 250+ since 10th grade. But now i'm so fed up with disappointment after disappoinment i'm giving up on being a civilian for now and following my heart.

I may be "smart" by some peoples standards but that doesn't mean I have had it good. I somehow lack a certain thing that allows me to be successful in society. I hate the general public, I haven't had a date in 6 years, never been laid, I have been laid off 3 times in the last year, 25 years old and had to move back in with my parents. I live in a town where the only thing to do is drink because there is only 3,000 people and 7 bars right in town and 4 more within 10 mins. Take in account kids and the elderly and you got the whole town drunk on the weekends......I hate it.

This town has one fitness center and because of some horrible bureaucratic bs the town will not have a fitness center for 5 months. I guess drinking is more important than health.

I have the intesnity and desire still from playing college football and need to use it before it kills me. I LOVE crazy intense physical activites, boot camp is gonna be a vacation.

Sorry about the rant, I just can't wait to get out of this crappy town (I say crappy because of the no swearing rule that I have been politley reminded of in the past) and never look back!
