so i graduate with my bachelors degree in december but here recently the urge to serve my country has taken over. i've been looking hard at the 35M(human intelligence collector) as the MOS i'm most interested in, and also going to jump school after my AIT. i guess one of my main questions is regarding AIT...how much free time(if any) do you get while at AIT? AIT for that particular MOS is like 20 weeks so i'm concerned that AIT is hardcore structured like bootcamp. i'm hoping you guys can clear that up for me...

I have no clue, I just wanted to chime in and say thanks for your service. You've got cahones son. Good luck, people like you are the only thing keeping this country together.

For me going to Liberia and getting to see a war zone was all I needed to make sure I graduated. We are a little bit different.:)

You'll probably be restricted similar to basic training for the first 3-4 weeks of AIT. That's usually the way it works. After that, you'll have limited free time on the weekdays and your weekends will be yours to do what you want. That's also how the regular army works too, unfortunately.

Its likely that your AIT company will have a weight training area within the barracks. That's how it was for me in 1997-1998.

Why not just go to officer commissioning school (OCS) and become a 2LT if you've already obtained your degree?

now i wouldn't bash officers in general. . yes we spend less time in the field to obtain the lt rank, but what's not noted is we are ranked against one another, speculated, and graded for three years (not just 90 days) before getting commissioned and then afterwards we still have our own infantry basic and officers ait to complete. . . does that mean we should pull rank over our nco's as a 2LT? . . any officer with half a brain would know never to do that. . but becoming an officer is no "easy" task, just a different route to becoming a soldier. . .

eh... I suppose that's one major difference between Army and Marine Corps then, cuz Marine Corps Lt's tend to try and outrank gunnys and top's like it's cool or something.

i have only ever had one run in with a Lt in all my years, and a quick call to my CO. fixed that..... all i heard was him on the phone talking to the CO.... yes Sir, yes Sir, got it Sir, moving Sir and he didnt come into my motorpool office anymore. i wonder why?????? i have no grief with Officers in general, we all bleed red.
