decided to post this after reading dinoiiis post in the diet section. i got a little chuckle out of the thought of having 3 or 4 micellar shakes a night. just curious how often you go through say a 2 lb tub of protein.

Well, as you chuckle :o

I will offer you a qualified, albeit simple response.

"It depends."

Like I said, if not having caloric fluctuation --> you are likely not to budge body composition.

#1 rule: Mass can neither be created nor destroyed....yeah, yeah you know the laws of the universe...but how many abide by it? If you do not give your body caloric excess + keep a positive nitrogen balance, lets say I go through one 2 lb. jug every other day. Provided I am not spinning my wheels - it is money well spent, correct?

Now - lets take me as Mr. Smooth and I consume 1 2 lb jug over the course of 2 weeks time. Thats great for the wallet - but useless for physique purposes.

In the same sense, how many times could I realistically eat per day solid food meals and how well over the last 10 years have I realized my body doesn't respond well to heavy digestion phases after 7pm? I can simply say - the price is of no concern. But my earlier figure of a jug literally every 2 days would not be far from the truth.

Still chuckling :?

ok - well if I dont take that tally down during times of caloric deprivation, I am likely not going to budge the scale in the opposite direction.

See a funny thing eventually happened using that equation...
All of a sudden I spent less time needing "dieting" down or "cutting" phases...I was likely there. My micromanagement only lended the need for me to worry about caloric excess therefore, I now need consume a tub every day and a half. Evolution I suppose.

If you think about it and perhaps its me rationalizing, as the supplement bill goes up the grocery bill tends to go down. As of late - both have gone up and I seem to not put on weight. Well, recall I began this dream at 350 pounds ... seems like all is well homeostatically speaking, huh?

SUMMARY:
Protein Tally
Right Now -- 40-60 grams x's 8-9 meals ONLY yields a potential max of 540 grams. At 215-220 lbs on average with 7% BF (current), I am pretty content.

Hehe - if that made you chuckle, you wouldn't want to see carb and protein tallies to maintain weight these days.

very nice response, i am impressed and definitely agree with you-supp bill goes up, grocery bill goes down, and it is much easier on my stomach to take a shake than solid food, and a lot of times a lot more convenient, especially if not by the house

i usually take between 45grms protien 3-4 day plus some times a bar to add in. You are right that for the price and quality of the new protiens you cant go wrong. Dinoiii I know that your are in the medical field what are you going to specialize in when your done cause it be nice if more DR did the kinda reseach that you do cause my DR has no idea what 90% of the stuff i take is and thinks everything is bad for you.

I spend a small fortune on protein shakes. My schedule is so hectic that in order for me to get in the necessary amount, I pretty much live off of it. Plus, I'm a picky eater, so it works out okay anyways. BTW... I do not get into the issues that I might would do better if I got more protein from whole food versus shakes, but I tried it for years that way, I and have done as well or better since my shake count went up. I am well aware of the argument for more whole food protein sources, but also well aware of what works best for me.

I view it like Italian said also, supplement bill goes up, but grocery bill comes down dramatically.

I can go through a 2 lb. container in 4 days sometimes.

Hey Max

intentions for specialty have come and gone

I am currently doing a residency in IM w/ a subspecialty in Endocrinology. The place I work is out of John Hopkins umbrella down in Baltimore, MD. I did most of my work with the University of Rochester, NY. Though have spent some of my years in the wards in Portland, Maine (8 mos.) which is just a nice quaint change from the ole city life, yet return to Baltimore on Jan 27th. This is on top of a Master's Degree in Health Service Administration and PhD work (Endo).

Hell, I may even continue what is known as a joint MD/ND or NMD which would be done while initiating my intentioned part-time practice/part-time research life. Like I said, I would love to get into R&D for a supp company. I have some shelved projects already from when I intended on getting my own company going. It became a huge responsibility however while being a student and so they remain shelved with no business....certainly unique thoughts nonetheless.

I agree with you Steve...hopefully, everyone can tap into what their own bodies tell them. This is a key to live by and why all people who preach diet just can't seem to keep everyone content...EVERYONE IS DIFFERENT!

Good post Dinoii. It is great to have people like yourself here that can state a point of view and still be understanding of other peoples points of view as well. If you ever want to chat off the board on ideas, shoot me an e-mail. I am open minded to various ideas.

To go against popular opinion here....I personally seem to do better on more whole foods. I seem to have better energy for some reason when i ingest more meals per day than shakes so i stick with it, unless I have a hectic day and cant afford to sit down and eat. In that case i load my cooler with protein filled shaker bottles and a few bottles of milk.

You bet Steve...

I would love to throw some things back and forth. I think that is really the imperative luxury of boards in the first place - the ability to share ideas and aid in a common bond all of us share - the desire to increase muscle and decrease fat.

Wedgylx...

That too I am sure you are well aware of... I honestly cannot imagine 8-10 meals (my current regime dependent upon waking hours) of solid food though. Sometimes, I even push the shakes.
