I was getting my diet all worked out on Excel to keep track of my daily nutritional intake. I came across an issue while i was trying to maximize my protein intake. I weigh around 205 so i was trying to get more than 300g of protein a day. I remember hearing that your body can only take in like 30 or so grams of protein at a time and anything after that is wasted. Does anyone know if there is a limit to how much you should consume at once.

There is not definite line to how much protein you body can take in at a certain time. It most likely is different amounts for different people. I take in 60 sometimes 70 grams at once, still making gains, so obviously that number is fine for me. I wouldnt try taking in like 200g at once, but whatever your taking in now im sure is fine, no need to worry

im trying to take in around 50gs per serving of it and i wanted to know what is the time frame that i should wait between protein intakes

Shakes usually make me kinda full, so I usually wait atleast 45 mins to an hour.

alright, because the dude at gnc told me like 3 hours and im like how in the hell am i gonna get roughly 175g of protein a day like that, thats just too many shakes for me a day and i dont like eatin that much tuna and chicken

3 hours? That doesnt even make sense. Your drinking liquid, therefore its going to digest faster than solid food. Well he does work at GNC so cut him some slack :)

The magic number for protein at a sitting is 38.54398721...

of course, I am kidding.

The ole 30 grams/meal thing is one of those Nolvadex, hCG myths that stike people's fancy and then they become afraid to simply do anything else.

I weigh 245.

245 / 5 = 49

So I try to get around 49 grams every 3 hours.

that's the math I do, and I get good gains, but you can always try 38.54398721.

I weigh about 205. I find the best thing I've tried is to eat about every hour and a half to two hours. I eat about 35g + every meal except for a little more in the morning and post training.

Since the end of February I have gained 31 lbs and about 0.3 % body fat. Dino told me a long time ago that he made the best gains when he took in almost 2 g of protein per lb of body weight. I swear to you, it has worked far better than anything else Ive tried.

I thank you for the props.

My rationale would support ~1.8 grams / pound to cover basal metabolism...increasing it above that is IMPERATIVE for proper postitive nitrogen balance. I would actually spread it out of something greater than 5 meals too...

Rule of thumb:
6 meals is better than 5
7 meals is better than 6
8 meals is better than 7
9 meals is better than 8
10 meals is better than 9

and so on...

I go for 1-1.5g protein per lb of body weight on a bulk

I use 1.5-2g of protein per lb of body weight on a cut

I eat 8-10 meals a day.

I thought it was 1.5-2g per pound, but really isn't about meal freq. like u guys are saying and eating enough of the right kind of carbs so ur body doesn't use the protein for fuel right?

Eating multiple times throughout the day actually increases hypothalamic functioning.

Translation:

Increased meal frequency = brain response saying "ok, enough food and nutrient absorption at an adequate rate...therefore, I can get rid of excess quicker."

Decreased meal freuency = brain response saying "ok, not enough food and nutrient absorption at an adequate rate...therefore, I MUST slow transit through the gastrointestinal tract to allow for longer absorption times."

Its a complete process!!! Nitrogen Balance is imperative as is insulin modulation (protein too impacts insulin) as is metablic processing. Its funny - usually most programs, "authorities," et al usually leave out many equations and make fun of those that follow it scientifically. Ummmm....ok....

I must say that the best results I ever made, was eating chicken and rice every hour post training for 5 hours. I know it sounds a little insane, but I guess I don't like to do anything else.

nah, not "insane"

simplistic maybe, but it still fits rationale

Too much protien per meal??

I REFUSE to stop eating my 32oz Porterhouse after only three bites:).

Oh and Dinoiii are your sure 8-10 meals a day? The price of those steaks x 8-10 a day (I only eat Prime beef) is starting to catch up with me.

The call is usually to decreased portion size, not have 8-10 16 oz. slabs.

Nah...it really then goes into metabolic equivalencies (METs), et al. to adjust for what it is you want to do (goal-wise).
