Took 6 months off of heavy training to find a new, less political bunch to train with and to get a blood pressure issue resoved. turned out there was no bp issue, just the nurse using too small a cuff on my arm!

Anyway, lifts are going good, I need more cardio tho since we have a deep bench with anywhere from 5 to 7 guys in rotation.

How much do cardio do you suggest?

i need to gain around 15 more lbs to hit the weight class i want but not get too fat.

cheers

j/k

If you have more guys rotating wont you have a longer rest period?

Anyways, I do not do much "cardio" as it is difficult on my knees. I prefer to cause the pain from squatting. lol! I don't know if you need to be in "shape" so to speak as in being able to run 3 miles in 20minutes or something. But, it will definitely help if you raise your level of fitness sport specific. I would do it another way. You need to be in shape so you can continue to push during training as it lasts longer in most cases than say bb. Instead of riding the bike until closing I would do things like kettlebell movements for time, sled dragging, some high rep work etc. This will get your general preparedness up. But everyone trains differently.

Thanks Sonny!

My Gymdoes not have kettlebells tho I'm working on getting them to get some. Can I subsititute dumbells?
Can you suggest some powerlifting specific ph cycles? PM me if you wish

Dumbells will not work due to they are cumbersome and you will likely wack yourself. They are pretty expensive for a set but you really only need 1-2 depending....maybe the 16kg or the 20-24kg. If you are just swinging them/cleaning them for endurance purposes you do not need the really heavy ones. See if you can convince them to buy a couple. But you do not need them, I was just suggesting them as an alternative to say running/bike etc. but definitely do some endurance training for optimal results.
