View Full Version : Grilled Chicken

In an effort to save time during each week, I generally cook all my chicken breasts each week (12 in total) on my bbq, and then freeze the 10 I don't eat that day...
Question is this? Does freezing/refridgerating them lose any protein content in the breasts? I don't know if anyone out there has an answer, but I thought I would ask away, cause you never know....
Cheers :)

I don't see why. The frozen chicken I buy has the same protein content. Its just a change in state from solid (frozen) to semi-solid (cooked).

I never heard of it affecting the macronutrients

Cheers ppl!

Freezing actually tends to "stabilize" the protein!!!
Believe it or not, it is the heating it in the primary cooking process that tends to be the most detrimental (i.e. - protein degrading through separation of peptide bonds, etc...)
While I wouldn't encourage you to not cook your meat...it is likely a good idea to degrade it to the least degree. What I am trying to say...is that if you choose to freeze it - ONLY LATER TO REHEAT (again, heating doing the detriment to the peptides, etc...), this could be the potential problem thereby rendering your protein less beneficial (i.e. - measured in total quality grams).

Try marinating it in a simple teriyaki sauce with some powdered ginger, then grilling it partially, then when it comes time to re-heat it after defrosting, you won't be totally over cooking it.
