I think that the main drawbacks to alcohol are the amount of empty calories and the way it makes some people feel the following day and the effect that that has on your workouts.

For me, I only drink before off-days in the gym. With my metabolism the extra calories really do not phase me.

I guess the way I view it is that I put alot of time and energy into eating right, working out, etc... I still want to be able to have fun so I don't really down myself for drinking every once in awhile. Plus, hey, beer does taste good. LOL

I am gonna go a bit of a different route than I myself saw on this one. First read my post to la_Zuru regarding smoking and potential gains...the same applies here.

I do have a suggestion though.
Provided you do NOT follow a low-carb diet, on days you opt to drink...replace roughly (I would hate for you to actually figure this out consistently) 2 grams of carbs for each single gram alcohol (7.5 calories per gram). I think you will be surprised at the damage control this can offer.

You are in college after all, you have plenty of time to call it quits with alcohol later. Oh yeah, there is that whole not drinking alcohol with methylated PH's though. You can see PH forum if you have questions there.

I go to Merrimack College in MA, Majoring in Health Science and i'm a sophomore. Nice to meet people your own age around here, helps often times when you've got questions on certain supps or training to find someone in the same boat as you are.
