i know before and after workouts it is good to take whey becasue it is digested the fastest. before bed it is good to take cassein, but when you wake up do you want something quickly digested or more slowly. would a blend be the best for the morning or whey with milk. any suggestions of what brand would be best for the morning is more than welcome. thanks

A little whey w/o casein when you first wake up. If you are on a higher carb diet - this is a great time to replenish glycogen stores as well.
When you have been up for about 1-1.5 hrs. then ingest some casein or a regular whole food meal (including some more carbs if you are not a low-carber). Cottage Cheese + Oatmeal is an excellent choice. Eggs + Veggies with a side of oatmeal could be another (may need to have one scoop of protein powder to make your desired protein tally at this time as well - go with casein).
A good plan if you dont workout in the am or if you are on a day off is to have the 1st meal right when you wake up....get ready for work, etc.... then have your second meal. This should last you until your mid-morning snack meal.

thanks for the detailed reply, very helpful, i will go with whey for my morning protein. have any good suggestions on what to get? everyone i knows takes 100% whey by on, but im not too fond of its flavor. im kinda leaning towards whey gourmet.

As far as quality whey proteins for in the morning, I always use a whey isolate. My choice is Nectar because of the tastes. (I cannot do Choc., Vanilla, or Strawberry first thing in the morning.) With Nectar I like the lemonade the best for morning time.

I like Nectar too for the morning. I alternate sometimes with Primaforce now since turned onto it. But Nectar varieties are plenty - its kinda like a Whey Buffet!
I too like the Roadside Lemonade flavor.
One thing I wish Syntrax would get in order is sometimes it tends to clump. This is not a terrible thing, but do shake very well. If you blend it of course, there is less of an issue with this, but I find a shaker just plain easier as I stumble out of bed.

I always take vanilla AST brand "VP2" protein. Its a whey isolate, it will end your catabolic state from sleeping. Also it tastes damn good with skim milk. I recommend it

have you had the chocolate or vanilla vp2? i am usually partial to vanilla because every once in awhile i will throw in some frozen fruit, or blend with v8 splash diet (really low sugar and something like 10 cals per serving) for a good fruity breakfast shake. then again i might try nectar i have only heard good things about that as well. ahhhhh too many decisions, they are probably all comparable, but i still cant decide

I take ON 100% whey in the morning with milk in the morning to get a little extra kick. Throught out the day and before bed i take my protien with water cause milk can sometimes cause me to bloat if i drink to much

best proteins for the morning are fast digestive, like whey cfm.
before bed, you want slow digestive, like micellar casein.
proteins that contain both are cool. molecular nutrition had one, but i cant find it now. currently im usning nutrabolics isobolic, which rocks, but expensive.

If you are talking about Sustained Release Protein Haus, it is still out there. Plus you can get all of Molecular's (even discontinued) products if you look hard enough. I am a Molecular fan too. Whey Fruity is pretty good and their Boldione product works phenomenally. 2 of my actual favorites.
