I've been reading some articles by louie simmons on powerlifting recently. I mainly focus on bench press, but according to the articles I've read and watching the powerlifters in my gym they do a speed day and then a few days later they do a max out day. On Some days they use chains and bands. I personally just did my first speed day last week using 60% of my max on bench and it felt graet. I did 9 sets of 3 reps with 60% using 3 different grips on the bar. The first 3 sets I just did the weight the last 6 sets I used the chains with the weight and I was pretty sore the next day. Yesterday I went in and maxed out on the decline bench and was able to do a 1RM of 445lbs. That is a new personal best for me on this exercise. Anyway I'm gonna try this for a while and see if I can add some weight to my flat bench.

thanks fitz, ive been reading the articles, and they are helping me plan an attack.
never would have thought about speed but it makes good sense.

i'm a pool player for fun and profit and i tell people it's not common sense until someone points it out to you.:)

Most powerlifters have bench ONLY days, squat ONLY days, Dead ONLY days, MAX out days, Speed ONLY days, etc... there's so many ways to build strength...

Thats how we do it. every 4 weeks we do a max out power day, the other 3 weeks speed and form, throwing in bands or chains.

Be consistent and work on form, and the strength will get there.
